Large drum type pendant fixtures provide an elegant focal point to lobbies, hallways, and any space where aesthetic appeal and even lighting are desired. They can also be a pain to maintain. Typically, many pieces of the fixture need to be removed to get to the lamps. In fixtures with three or four lamps inside, it can sometimes be difficult to even identify an outage, leaving light levels lower than desired, and a general feeling that something is wrong with the space. LED solves the maintenance problems. However, replacing the fixtures with new LED fixtures doesn’t make sense. Why throw away one fixture that cost hundreds of dollars for another that costs another several hundred? LED lamps can create bright and dark areas on shades, and are not generally rated for 24/7 operation, particularly in restricted airflow fixtures like drum pendants.

TERRALUX surface mount retrofit kits can be used in large drum pendants, and provide all of the efficiency benefits of LED without the expense of a new fixture or the lifetime and aesthetic concerns of LED lamps. The SR series will easily mount to existing threaded pipes used in fixtures. One SR8 module is typically enough to light a drum pendant, but in larger drums, it’s possible to mount two back to back for twice the light. Either way, you get an evenly lit drum with a 5 year warranty that has no restrictions on runtime or installed fixture.
